In this section, we have explained what a shortcode is, how you can place them in your blogs, delete a shortcode, add multiple shortcodes, and change shortcode settings.
Before we jump into how to add these shortcodes to your blog, let’s understand what a shortcode is and what it does.
What is a shortcode & what does it do?
Shortcodes in WordPress are little bits of code that allow you to do various things with little effort. They were introduced in WordPress 2.5, and the reason to introduce them was to allow people to execute code inside WordPress posts, pages, and widgets without writing any code directly.
This allows you to embed files or create objects that normally require a lot of code in just one line.
Now that you understand what a shortcode does, let’s move on to understanding how to place them in your blog posts.
Go to the account settings from your WordPress dashboard. In this case, it is Whatso >Accounts and you can find the accounts that have been added.
Now, click the chosen account. Once you click on the account, the following page will appear.
On the right-hand side, you should be able to see the option “ shortcode for this account”.
Note: Shortcode will appear only after you click on publish after filling in all the details to add an account. If you have already published the account then it’ll be appearing as soon as you click on the account.
Now, copy this shortcode. You can keep it in your notepad as well. To copy this shortcode, you can either left-click and copy the shortcode or press Ctrl+C to copy the shortcode. If you use a Mac device, you can copy this shortcode by using Command + C.
Now, on the left-hand side of your dashboard, click on “Posts” and then click on “All Posts”.
Choose the post you wish to paste the shortcode in and open the post. Just to make things clearer, we are showing you how to place the shortcode through Whatso’s blog “What is the difference between different plans of Whatso”
Once you open the Post, place the copied shortcode exactly where you want it to appear in the post. In our case, here’s where we placed it.
Once you place it, click on “Update”. That’s it, your shortcode will appear exactly where you placed it. Let’s show you how exactly this looks on our website.
To view if your shortcode is placed properly, open the exact blog you placed the shortcode in and see for yourself.
Deleting a shortcode
Now, if you wish to remove the shortcode, you simply need to go back to the particular post and delete the shortcode from the blog. However, don’t forget to press “Update” after completing your actions.
Can I add more than one shortcode to one blog?
Yes, you can. You already know how to add a shortcode now. To add two different shortcodes to the same blog, just choose the accounts you wish to add, copy the shortcode and paste it on the blog you wish to add it on. It’s that simple.
Can I Change Shortcode settings?
Typically, the button is round in shape. You can make changes in the shortcode settings. Here’s how you do it.
Whatso>Shortcode Settings (Note: This will be your websites name in place of Whatso)
This page will appear.
Now, you can make your desired changes to your shortcode. Right from changing the shape from round to square to changing its color, this page offers a variety of customizations for you to choose from.
